"Operation Clean-Sweep" gets a "clean start"
"Operation Clean-Sweep," a collaborative effort between the Holly Park Homeowners Association and Allied Waste Services started on September 22, 2007. The goal is to maintain the clean appearance of our community by targeting the few alleys in our Community. Specifically, the alley located between Atkinson Ave. and Crenshaw Blvd., the alley located between Imperial Hwy. and 115th Street, and the alley located between Haas Ave. and Van Ness Ave. Operation Clean-Sweep will also target 119th Street in its entirety.
On its firat pass, HPHA and Allied Waste covered the alley behind Atkinson Ave. and the alley behind Imperial Hwy. Overgrowing vegetation was removed, trash was picked up, and large items were also removed.

It's All About Location
Nestled just south of Downtown Los Angeles, just east of Los Angeles International Airport, and a short distance from Long Beach and Orange County, it's no wonder that Holly Park is "the" place to live, and getting around town or around Southern California is easy with easy access to the 105, 405, 110, and 91 Freeways. If your travels take you across the country or around the world, LAX is just 10 minutes away.
But it's not just about transportation, it's also about relaxation. For the beach lover in you, Holly Park is minutes from Dockweiler State Beach, famous Manhattan Beach, the Redondo Beach Pier, Marina Del Rey, Venice Beach and Santa Monica.
Did we mention our golf course situated on the corner of 120th Street and
Van Ness Blvd, adjacent to Holly Park Park. The Chester Washington Golf Course
is an 18 course Par 70 with large trees, rolling
hills and undulating fairways.
If you can't resist the urge to shop, take a stroll along 120th Street and
Crenshaw to satisfy your building and home decorating needs. You can also shop
at two shopping centers located on the corner of Crenshaw Blvd. and Imperial
Hwy. To keep you going on your shopping excursion, take a break at any one
of the many eateries conveniently located in the same shopping centers. Need
quick cash?, then make a quick stop at any one of our five banks (Wells Fargo,
Bank of America, Citibank, Wescom Credit Union and Co-Op ATM, and California Credit Union and Co-Op ATM) located in
and adjacent to our shopping centers.
For the adventurous, Jack Hawthorne Municipal Airport is located on the corner of 120th and Crenshaw Blvd. Take an adventure flight on either a fixed wing aircraft or helicopter. Both are offered through Security Aviation located in the airport.
Construction of new Target store is on schedule
Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) is well underway in the construction of its new Holly Park Store. Grading of the multi-acre parcel is almost complete. Shortly we will begin to see the installation of the support pillars for the new building. Target's new home will be located on 120th Street between Crenshaw Blvd. and Van Ness St., next to Levitz and Lowes. Target is on schedule to open its new store sometime mid-2008.
The decision by Target to open a second store in the City of Hawthorne speaks
highly of our City and of Holly Park. We have disposable income and want
to buy quality goods at a reasonable price. Target will now fill this need.
This is great news for Holly Park because our residents will save time and gas by not having to travel to other cities to do our shopping. We will spend our money locally and thus support our local economy and City services.
Target, Welcome to Holly Park!
Central Park Homes Construction is Underway
The Central Park Homes construction project by Lee
Homes is well underway. The planned community will be located on the corner
of 120th Street and Van Ness Blvd., on the land that was once home to Northrop
Grumman.
The multi-acre parcel has been cleared and heavy equipment now occupies the landscape. Two large gravel mounds dominate the east end as the material is gound in preparation for the construction phase.
Demolition of the structures on the site to make way for the new homes was swift with no impact to Holly Park residents or to cummuters along the stretch of 120th Street that borders the project to the north.
As you drive on 120th Street between Wilkie Way and Van Ness Ave, the absence of the once sprawling building is noticeable. A mixture of nostalgia and excitement cannot be avoided - nostalgia at the loss of this landmark, and excitement of new life to this once quiet corner of Hawthorne.
Removal of Weeds & Waste Duty of Owner or Tenant
On July 10, 2007, the Hawthorne City Council approved Ordinance No. 1899 relating to the the Duty of Tenants and Property Owners to remove waste from adjoining sidewalk. Failure to do so will result in a fine of $100 for the first infraction, $200 for the second infraction and $500 for the third infraction.
Section 8.14.020 (Duty of Property Owner or Others in Possession - Removal of Weeds and Waste) of the Hawthorne Municipal Code was amended to require the owner, the agent of the owner, the lessee, the tenant, the occupant, or person in possession of any lot, tract or piece of land, improved or unimproved, in the city, to at once remove from the sidewalk abutting or adjoining such lot, tract or piece of land the following:
- A. All earth, soil, grass, weeds, dead trees, and other unsanitary substances or objects which may endanger or injury neighboring property, or the health and safety or welfare of the residents of the vicinity of the property, lands or lots, or obstruct such sidewalks and thereby endanger or injure persons traveling thereon
- B. Any rubbish, refuse, litter, waste paper or waste material of all kinds
SpaceX to become new Neighbor of Holly Park!
In front of an almost capacity crowd at the State of City address on February 14, 2007, City of Hawthorne Mayor Larry Guidi announced that Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, as the company is known, is consolidating its operations from El Segundo and East Los Angeles to the City of Hawthorne.
This speaks highly of the City of Hawthorne because SpaceX was being courted by several major cities across the country including New York and Houston before it decided to make the City of Hawthorne its new home. SpaceX currently employs about 250 combined staff in its current El Segundo and East Los Angeles facilities. The company is headed by Elon Musk who was previously a co-founder of the PayPal Inc. electronic payment system now owned by eBay, and Zip2, which was sold to Compaq Computer Corp.
The move brings high-tech back into the City of Hawthorne and particularly
to the Holly Park area. This move will also bring with it high-tech opportunities
to the residents of Holly Park and the City of Hawthorne. Thank you Mayor Guidi
and your fine staff for a job well done!
