   MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

The Holly Park Community of the City of Hawthorne welcomes you. Holly Park Homeowners Association is a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to the needs and requirements of the Holly Park Community. All of our work is performed on a volunteer basis. This means that all of our proceeds obtained through membership fees are recycled back to the Holly Park Community.

Our passion is the improvement of our community, a better quality of life, a safe environment for our children.

Jose C. Gutierrez, President HPHA

   QUOTE OF THE MONTH

"I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing." - Ronald Reagan, First Inaugural Address, January 20, 1981

I just came back from attending the second meeting of the Hawthorne Multrigroup held this past Saturday, May 31st at the Hawthorne Police Department.  I saw some familiar faces from our first meeting, and was also delighted to see new ones at this early Saturday morning meeting.  All counted, 21 private individuals attended the meeting moderated by Sgt. Steve Romero.  We were honored by our Chief of Police Michael Heffner who was also in attendance.

After a quick vote, the Hawthorne Multrigroup now has a formal name.  The group is now called the "Hawthorne C.H.A.T." (Citizens of Hawthorne Action Team - CHAT for short).  So what is C.H.A.T. all about?

C.H.A.T. is about making a difference in our City.  We meet as individual City residents to make positive change happen.  We are all stakeholders because we belong to the City of Hawthorne, and therefore have a vested interest in making our City a better place to live, and to promote and foster a healthy environment to raise our children.  C.H.A.T.'s official motto is "One is better than none. Ten is better than one.  The bigger the numbers, the better the result."

The goal of C.H.A.T. is to increase Civic Participation; to get people involved in whatever it is that we as Citizens of Hawthorne need to do to improve our City.

C.H.A.T.s objectives are:
  • Support our Police through Neighborhood Watch Programs
  • Improve our quality of life by:
    • Cleaning our City
    • Reducing grafitti
  • Improve our School System by uniting all of the schools within City Limits under the Hawthorne School District
  • Supporting our Local Groups and Associations by attending their Community Events

The time has come to circle the wagons, to come together and work as a Unified Group of Citizens for a common goal - to make our City better!  It is time to turn frustrations into positive action.

What relationship does C.H.A.T. have with Holly Park?  Late last year, Holly Park started two well received Community Imrprovement events:
  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Operation Clean Sweep
C.H.A.T. will now take these two programs to a larger audience - the City of Hawthorne.  Holly Park will share its experience with sister Homeowner Associations to get these programs started in their communities.  We at Holly Park are proud to be the catalyst for such positive change in our Community, and shortly, in our City.

The concept of joining forces is not new.  Back in 650 BC, the greek slave and fable author Aesop came up with this famous quote - "United we stand, divided we fall."  I pray that it does not take us another 2,500 years to finally understand the concept that was struck by Aesop in 650 BC, and echoed by Ronald Reagan in 1981 - "I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do.  I believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing."

Jose C. Gutierrez, President
