Today's Colllege Student is Underinsured
Annual Report | Monthly Agendas | Committee Reports | Ad Hoc Flyers

Summary of the Year's Headlines

From Laptops to Cell phones, today's college student is certainly well-connected, and possibly underinsured.

“Theft is the No. 1 crime on college campuses”

Theft is the No. 1 crime on college campuses, according to the Insurance Information Institute. While students living in dorms are usually covered under their parents' homeowners insurance policy, there may be limits to the coverage for electronic items, the group says. Students living off-campus in apartments may not be covered under their parents' policies at all.

Parents should read their policy or check with their agent to make sure college students are covered. Also consider renter's insurance. A typical policy costs about $15 to $30 a month.
